Cosplayers unleash their fury in this Attack On Titan Anthology exclusive

Attack On Titan is one of the biggest manga and anime success stories in recent history, and the property’s massive appeal is highlighted in the new Attack On Titan Anthology, a hardcover collection of comics and pin-ups by an outstanding lineup of Western comic-book creators. In the book, Eisner Award-winning names like Scott Snyder, Michael Avon Oeming, Faith Erin Hicks, Evan Dorkin, and Paolo Rivera are given the freedom to explore different aspects of Hajime Isayama’s concept. With stories and illustrations that cover a wide variety of genres and tones, this anthology showcases how the themes and imagery of this property can be applied to situations that wouldn’t necessarily appear in either the manga or anime.

This exclusive excerpt of the Attack On Titan Anthology contains the entire story by the creative team that took Batgirl to Burnside, and these pages highlight the style and energy that made Brenden Fletcher, Cameron Stewart, and Babs Tarr’s take on Barbara Gordon so refreshing. Anyone who has been to a comic or anime convention over the last few years has probably seen Attack On Titan cosplayers, and this short story uses hyper-violent Titan imagery to explore what goes through a female cosplayer’s mind when personal boundaries are crossed. Lisa and friends are dressed as sexy Titans, but when an unwanted hand lands on Lisa’s behind, she transforms into a rampaging giant that brutally kills the men who don’t respect her personal space.

No actual murders are happening in reality, but that’s what Lisa wants to do in that moment, and the creative team does great work using the property to reflect the character’s emotional state. Readers can find more clever applications of this concept by picking up the Attack On Titan Anthology, in stores now, and if they’re hungering for new work from Fletcher, Stewart, and Tarr, they can grab the first issue of their new Image Comics series Motor Crush when that hits comic shops next week.
