Could-be cult film Paranormal Activity adopts squeaky wheel-inspired distribution scheme

The much talked-about but little-seen horror movie Paranormal Activity, shot in one week for a miniscule budget, has adopted an odd distribution strategy based on Internet demand. After playing coy about a possible theatrical release, it looks like Paramount has decided to send the festival favorite only to the cities that really want it. Or at least don't mind clicking a mouse a lot. They've put up a site letting would-be viewers demand it come to their city. Not surprisingly, the bigger cities are beating out the smaller ones for now. So if you, say, Milwaukeeans, really want to see the movie, start pushing buttons.
