Courtney Love teases fans with new (or possibly old) Hole
Musician, muse, and turtle resting place Courtney Love has once again been hinting that she might reunite with Hole, the immensely successful ’90s rock band responsible for most of her non-Kurt Cobain-related fame. Not that that’s necessarily a revolutionary idea: Love made (and then dismissed) similar claims back in 2014, four years after briefly reforming the group with an entirely new line-up. Nevertheless, the singer and guitarist hopped on Instagram yesterday to post a picture of herself with classic Hole drummer Patty Schemel and bassist Mellisa Auf Der Maur, captioning the photo, “with the girls, serving up a Hole lot of something. maybe ππ,” which suggests either a potential reunion, or that Love’s heart is covered in glitter, and she feels pretty good about it.
Potentially feeling less good about it: Auf Der Maur, who made her feelings on a Hole reunion clear in a BlastEcho interview last month: “When I imagine us playing outdoor daytime stages to, like, beer-soaked 20 year olds who don’t even know Hole or listen to records, that doesn’t sound healing or celebratory,” she said, adding that her regular life more-or-less completely precludes the idea of touring or writing new songs. What Auf Der Maur does want—and, possibly, what Love was suggesting with her social media post—is some kind of Hole retrospective, celebrating the band, and Love’s status as a “once-in-a-generation piece of art.” “If you wanna talk about the archives,” Auf Der Maur said, referring to hours of unreleased tape from the band’s heyday, ”and you wanna talk about the brilliant past, then I’ll have a conversation.”
