Courtney Love to star in Lifetime’s Menendez brothers movie
Were you sentient enough in the ’90s to remember who Courtney Love and the Menendez brothers are? Because if so, Lifetime has the perfect TV movie for you. According to Deadline, Love has been cast as Kitty Menendez, the mother of Lyle and Erik Menendez, in an as-yet-untitled original movie about the two famous murderers. The TV movie will reportedly focus on “the inner lives and motivation” that drove the Menendez brothers to kill their parents, specifically focusing on “the extreme abuse the brothers endured at their father’s hands” while their mother “looked the other way.”
The brothers’ trial enthralled the country, and after a mistrial and deadlocked jury, the two of them were eventually sentenced to life in prison without parole. The Deadline story doesn’t describe the scope of the Lifetime movie, though, so we don’t know how much of the brothers’ lives pre-murders or post-murders it’ll cover. The project is being directed by RuPaul’s Drag Race producers Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato, and production is set to begin in February.
