We’re nearly a month into the spring, which has been filled with rain, and more importantly, TV premieres (though the most anticipated returns are still days away). The season also brings with it the seeds for next year’s enjoyment, i.e., the network upfronts. Comedy Central had the honors of heralding the start of upfronts with its first such presentation, and now Crackle has entered the fray with plans for a TV adaptation of Guy Ritchie’s Snatch, as well as more of Jerry Seinfeld’s caffeine-fueled conversations with fellow funny people while also steering an automobile.
The proposed adaptation of the 2000 film, which starred Brad Pitt and Ritchie film fixture Jason Statham, will “carry the spirit of the setting in the original feature film, while creating a new world” for Crackle viewers over the course of 10 episodes. The series will see a group of small-time hustlers graduate to organized crime, because character development is key. No one’s attached to produce, direct, star, or mumble incoherently yet.
Crackle has also shared the trailer for its tech-world original series Start Up, starring Adam Brody, Martin Freeman, Edi Gathegi, Otmara Marrero, and Wayne Knight (“can a full Seinfeld reunion on Crackle be far off?,” we wonder, while looking at the header image). The drama, which got a 10-episode order, will follow three misfits on the “opportunist streets of Miami,” where they’ll juggle dealings with a Haitian gang and the FBI while trying to their their titular start up off the ground.
Crackle will also tap into the game-show demographic with Sports Jeopardy!, a live weekly quiz show hosted by Dan Patrick. The show will kick off in August with coverage of the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, and will pop back up in the fall in time for hockey season.
The site also shared the lineup for the next season of Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee: When next we see Seinfeld rarin’ and sippin’ to go, he’ll be alternately accompanied by Margaret Cho, Lorne Michaels, Jim Gaffigan, John Oliver, JB Smoove, and Judd Apatow. Additionally, Crackle has announced that SuperMansion, the all-in-the-superhero-family animated series featuring the voices of Bryan Cranston, Seth Green, and Keegan Michael-Key, will return in early 2017 with new episodes. Crackle also has more decadence in store, as production on season two of The Art Of More gets underway. And finally, there will be a Dead Rising movie, because zombies remain a (popular) thing. The cast, pictured below, includes Desperate Housewives’ Jesse Metcalfe, whose journalist character has armed himself with stubble, a small spear, and the truth, presumably.
