Crackle’s Snatch nabs Rupert Grint
Back in April, we brought you news that Crackle was continuing its ongoing efforts to be known as something other than the place where Jerry Seinfeld has coffee dates, as the Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee service announced a TV adaptation of Guy Ritchie’s frenetic crime comedy Snatch. The 2000 film featured a star-studded cast of gritty veterans in the world of crime cinema—including Benicio Del Toro, Jason Statham, Dennis Farina, and Brad Pitt—so Crackle would need to pull in a real heavyweight if it was going to make the series anything more than a briefly remembered, poorly thought-out offshoot of the movie-to-TV craze.
Anyway, Deadline is reporting that Harry Potter star Rupert Grint has been cast in a lead role in Crackle’s Snatch. (Meanwhile, be sure to check out the fearsome Cracklesnatch in Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them, out this November.) The former Ron Weasley will star in the series as Charlie Cavendish, a “dynamic, frustratingly chaotic, and utterly posh con man” attempting to take advantage of a wayward truck full of heisted gold bullion. The role actually sounds quite a bit like Grint’s last performance, in the woeful period comedy Moonwalkers, where he and Ron Perlman struggled to fake the moon landing, and/or make faking the moon landing seem fun.
Grint joins a cast that includes Fear The Walking Dead’s Dougray Scott and Ed Westwick of the short-lived Wicked City. Meanwhile, the series is being directed by prolific TV guy Nicholas Renton, whose most recent project was BBC’s The Musketeers.
