Creating your own LaCroix flavor shows a lot about you as a person

The A.V. Club drinks a lot of LaCroix. Most of us have strong opinions on flavors. Some of us strategize the best time to snag one from the office kitchen mini-fridge: You have a better chance of actually getting one early in the morning, but they’re warm; wait too long for them to cool to the temperature of optimal refreshment, and there won’t be any left.

We’re not the only office guzzling the fizzy drink: Vox traces the surge of LaCroix enthusiasm in offices across the U.S. to a combination of Americans quitting soda, smart marketing, and courting influential writers. The New York Times published a loving profile, and several others have ranked its 20 flavors.

Part of LaCroix’s charm is the design of the can: A strangely dated mess of splashes, channeling art work from ’90s-era doctors’ offices. LaCroix’s roots can be traced to Wisconsin (like many great things, including The A.V. Club), and the low-key Midwestern vibe makes for a down-to-earth yet refined drink.

A website—not affiliated with LaCroix—lets lovers make their own flavor and matching design. MyLaCroix.com’s throwback aesthetic is in keeping with that of the LaCroix can, and it was an instant hit here at Onion Inc. It also brought out the LaCroix haters, a usually silent but surprisingly large contingent who used the opportunity to share their distaste for the beverage. It turns out that designing your own LaCroix can says a lot about who you are as a person. Below, a sampling of LaCroix flavors and designs from A.V. Clubbers and our co-workers across Onion Inc.:
