Creed’s Tessa Thompson to play a superhero/love interest in Thor: Ragnarok

According to Deadline, Creed’s Tessa Thompson has just landed what sounds like a pretty sweet Marvel Cinematic Universe gig. She’ll be appearing in director Taika Waititi’s Thor: Ragnarok as “a kind of superhero,” and then she’ll “appear in other Marvel films” after that. The implication there seems to be that she’ll be playing an Asgardian like Thor, opening the door for her to pop up in confusing dream sequences like Idris Elba’s Heimdall did in Avengers: Age Of Ultron.

In addition to her being “a kind of superhero,” Deadline says that Thompson’s character will also be the new love interest for Chris Hemsworth’s god of thunder. Considering Natalie Portman hasn’t been officially attached to Thor: Ragnarok yet, that almost certainly means that the grand, universe-hopping romance of Thor and Jane Foster has come to an end. That is, unless the movie plans to take a page from Jason Aaron and Esad Ribic’s run on Thor: God Of Thunder and jump way into the future, long after Jane and the rest of the human race have died off. That might be a little bleak for a Marvel movie, though.

Interestingly, Thompson will next appear in Alex Garland’s Annihilation, which also stars Natalie Portman.
