CTOTD: A very special dialogue supplement
I love writing Commentary Tracks Of The Damned installments. Only problem is, the format is so short that hard choices must be made. For instance, in this week's Highlander 2 feature, it was impossible to include the entire awkward, embarrassed, forced-jolly conversation the filmmakers had while watching Christopher Lambert and Virginia Madsen boink against a wall, in one of the new version's most ridiculous and least-justified add-ons. In the hopes that you find this as funny as I did, here's the entire exchange as a supplement to the snippet I was able to fit into the piece:
Bill Panzer: Now here, here you go, Peter. Here's where Christof has his first romantic encounter with Virginia. I think we made this a little more sensual, as it was originally intended, in the Renegade Version than in the original. Uh, I'm sure some feminists would disagree with the word "romantic."
Russell Mulcahy: Well, she gets NAILED up against the WALL.
Panzer: Right. [He laughs. Long pause.]
Mulcahy: Which is… rather romantic.
Peter Davis: That's Australian for "romantic."
Panzer: That's right, that's Australian for "romantic." [They laugh hollowly. Pause as actual onscreen sex begins.]
Mulcahy: [Rushed.] Actually, she's a very nice actress. [Pause.]
Mulcahy: [Tour guide tone.] So… as we see in this scene, MacLeod has not lost his, his Scottish virility.
Panzer: His love of life.
Mulcahy: His passion for life. [Pause.]
Panzer: They definitely seem to… be into this. [Long pause.]
Davis: Now. This set. What was your original thinking on this set? Because it really is a wonderful set.
