Daily Show set to be donated to the Newseum after Jon Stewart’s last show
Jon Stewart will bow out of his Daily Show hosting duties tonight, and even though we’ve had since February (and, more recently, a punny Twitter campaign) to get used to the idea, we at The A.V. Club are still having a rough time of it. After all, it’s not as if we could stop by during his last week like his pals Denis Leary and Louis C.K. to wish him well. And we certainly don’t have Arby’s money with which to commission a Ving Rhames serenade. So we suppose we’ll just have to console ourselves with watching clips and maybe eventually making a trip to Washington, D.C. to visit the show’s set, which has been donated to a journalism museum.
Vulture reports that the show’s late-era Stewart set will go to the Newseum, an interactive museum that houses such important historical artifacts as a piece of the Berlin Wall and, once upon a time, an exhibit inspired by the Anchorman movies. The Newseum said it was thrilled with the acquisition, which will help tell the “important story about how political satire and news as humor made The Daily Show a trusted news source for a generation.”
The set will be displayed in a future exhibit, but there’s no word on when we can expect to see it. So although that means snot-nosed kids will likely be swiveling around in Stewart’s chair (that’s how we’re interpreting “interactive,” anyway), at least the set didn’t get tossed out with last night’s dinner like The Late Show With David Letterman’s.
