Damien Chazelle is making a TV musical about a Paris club
According to The Hollywood Reporter, La La Land’s Damien Chazelle is directing a musical TV show called The Eddy that is currently searching for a home. Though THR doesn’t mention the word “jazz” in its story, we’re going to guess that, in one way or another, the genre will be involved. The series takes place in present-day Paris and reportedly “revolves around a club, its owner, the house band, and the volatile city that surrounds them.” Given Chazelle’s oeuvre, if it‘s not about jazz—or doesn’t feature jazz in some context—we’re going to be very surprised.
Still, for what it’s worth, the Best Director winner is not writing the pilot; Jack Thorne, best known for the Harry Potter play/fan fiction The Cursed Child, has those duties. Meanwhile, Chazelle is also working on a film, pairing once again with Ryan Gosling on a Neil Armstrong biopic called First Man.
