Dan Anderson & Maggie Berman: Sex Tips For Straight Women From A Gay Man
Maggie Berman, a straight woman, and Dan Anderson, a gay man, have been best friends for years. Together they hit upon the idea for this book, which supposedly contains tips on driving men wild from someone who has a vested interest in the idea. Don't be fooled. There's the usual sex advice that everyone with experience or curiosity should know, and which would be taught in schools if this were a sane world—use a condom, lubricate with abandon, pay attention to your partner, don't tie anybody up too tightly, and so on. There are chapters, somewhat fuzzy in detail, about sex toys, sexual positions, and even—this one's much more graphic—the proper way to decorate one's boudoir. All of it is pretty good advice, and there are a couple of solid tips on technique, but in most ways it's no different from your average sex manual. The biggest difference, and the biggest annoyance, is the Cosmo-cutesy presentation, in which every little tidbit is supposed to "earn you the tennis bracelet"; where a man's refusal to wear a condom is referred to as "incorrect fashion thinking"; and where the penis itself is usually referred to as "Mr. Stiffy," and never as a penis. If you're in the market for a practical, nuts-and-bolts sex manual written by a gay man, wait for Dan Savage to publish a collection. If you want a really stylish, good-looking sex manual without all that embarrassingly accurate terminology, step right up.
