Dan Aykroyd, John Belushi’s widow launch Blues Brothers Records
To the delight of guys who have ponytails and dangly earrings and hold down a monthly gig at a dueling piano bar next to a Cheeseburger in Paradise, Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi’s widow Judy are launching Blues Brothers Records with an open call for talent submissions. With the imagined roar of a fevered public screaming, “More contemporary blues!” and “Blues Brothers 2000 was criminally underrated!” ringing in their ears, Aykryod and Belushi are teaming with Don Was-led jazz imprint Blue Note Records to form the new label. Blue Note will act as distributor, while Aykroyd will promote artists signed to Blues Brothers Records on his syndicated “Elwood’s BluesMobile” radio show. In related news, a harmonica-toting man wearing Groucho glasses and going by the name “Tim Smesmushi” was seen loitering suspiciously in the vicinity of the new Blues Brothers Records offices.
