Dan Harmon to produce animated biopic of Michael Jackson’s chimp Bubbles
Fresh off of the success of its Oscar-nominated ode to middle-aged existential angst and explicit stop-motion sex Anomalisa, Starburns Industries—the animation company co-founded by Dan Harmon, Dino Stamatopoulos, Joe Russo II, and James A. Fino, a fact that you probably already knew, because the name is a Community reference and this is The A.V. Club—has set its next project: A stop-motion animated movie telling the story of Michael Jackson’s life from the perspective of his pet chimp Bubbles.
This news comes courtesy of Deadline, which also reveals that the screenplay for the project was written by Isaac Adamson and topped last year’s Black List of Hollywood’s best unproduced screenplays. Bubbles himself, who sat in on the recording sessions for Jackson’s 1987 album Bad, toured the world with his owner multiple times, and has presumably seen some weird shit in his day, is currently living out his days at the Center for Great Apes in Florida, where his constant companion is another famous chimpanzee named Ripley, a.k.a Barry the monkey from Seinfeld.
