Daniel Craig reportedly asked Phoebe Waller-Bridge to make the next James Bond movie funnier
Daniel Craig was once very adamant that he would not return to the James Bond franchise, but now that he’s committed to sticking around for Bond 25—or is it Shatterhand?—it sounds like director Cary Fukunaga is willing to do whatever he needs to keep Craig happy. According to The Guardian, that includes allowing Craig to cater to his desire for more “quirkiness” in the series by bringing in Fleabag and Killing Eve’s Phoebe Waller-Bridge to “liven up the script” for Bond 25. The request to bring her on board apparently came directly from Craig, who is a fan of Fleabag and wanted to see her bring in some “offbeat” humor. This might also have something to do with the fact that production on Bond 25 is reportedly going very slowly, what with original director Danny Boyle dropping out last summer, and the Guardian story notes that a number of writers—including duo Neil Purvis and Robert Wade as well as The Bourne Ultimatum’s Scott Burns—were brought in before Craig decided the script needed to be quirkier.
Whatever’s happening with this movie, Léa Seydoux is reportedly returning, with Lupita Nyong’o in talks for some role and Rami Malek set to play the villain.
