Danny Boyle is also going into TV

Following the example of directors like Steven Soderbergh and (maybe) William Friedkin trading in the risk-adverse and remake-driven film world for the still-remake-driven, but slightly less risk-adverse world of TV, Danny Boyle has signed a first-look production deal with FX. The deal stems from Boyle’s work on the upcoming Telemark, a 10-part miniseries about Norwegian resistance fighters who sabotage the Nazis’ attempt to make a nuclear bomb during WWII. The deal was brokered by Peter Rice, currently a Fox Networks executive, who championed Boyle’s Slumdog Millionaire during his time at Fox Searchlight. Boyle and his producing partner Christian Colson have committed to a two-year deal with FX, during which time they will develop series and/or miniseries for FX, FXX, and FXM—if the networks can find time between The Simpsons marathons, anyway.
