Danny DeVito and Jeff Goldblum to play washed-up musicians for Amazon

With the impending departure of a whole mess of HBO shows, Amazon’s stepping up the original content once more. The online retailer’s studio arm has just snared an untitled half-hour comedy starring Danny DeVito and Jeff Goldblum, Deadline reports. Created and written by Simpsons writer Tim Long, the series will see Goldblum and DeVito play an “iconic music duo from the past,” Matt Downey and Arlo Finkleman. The washed-up pair must reunite, presumably for money, though possibly at the behest of the Make-A-Wish Foundation. These “talented but strong-willed” knuckleheads must draw on the support of their loved ones and employees to make their reunion work. And to remove any lingering doubt of just how wacky the musical hijinks will be, Matt and Arlo are also described as “incandescent idiots.” DeVito will executive produce with his son Jake DeVito and Imagine TV producers Brian Grazer and Francie Calfo.
