Danny McBride producing and starring in a new comedy series for HBO
In a move that’s sure to please anyone who likes watching Danny McBride swear at children, HBO announced today that McBride and his Eastbound And Down co-conspirator Jody Hill are developing a new series for the cable network. Called Vice Principals, the show will be written by and star McBride in “the story of a high school and the people who almost run it—the vice principals.” The key word here is “almost”—characters with outsize egos have yielded great results for McBride in the past, and HBO programming president Michael Lombardo bets they will again. As Lombardo says in the press release announcing Vice Principals: “Danny McBride and Jody Hill have created a smart, rowdy and unpredictable style of comedy that we can’t get enough of…The idea of them setting their minds on high school was irresistible.” Vice Principals is being executive produced by Danny McBride, Jody Hill, David Gordon Green and Stephanie Laing, all of whom also served as producers on Eastbound And Down.
