Date tentatively set for Book Five of Martin's Ice And Fire
Hundreds of thousands of George R. R. Martin fans have been on pins and needles since the end of 2005, when A Feast For Crows–the fourth book of the fantasy author's seven-volume, epic-beyond-fucking-epic A Song Of Ice And Fire series–was released. Feast, of course, was a weird experiment: Due to its ballooning size, Martin split the book in two, with half of his sprawling cast of characters left dangling in the wind until Book Five. Two and half years–and a couple teasing sample chapters–later, we finally have a tentative hardcover release date for Feast's repeatedly delayed companion, the new A Dance With Dragons: September 30, 2008. Meanwhile, there hasn't been much news post-writers' strike about the HBO adaptation of the series; the network announced that it had acquired the rights to books in early 2007, and Martin said in November of last year that a script for Season One had been approved. Not sure about you guys, but I know what I'm (hopefully) staying up all night doing on 9/30.
