Daveed Diggs to star in TNT’s Snowpiercer pilot
It’s a busy upfronts season for Hamilton star Daveed Diggs. The show he executive produces, The Mayor, is heading to ABC, and now Turner announced that he has been cast as the star of its television adaptation of Bong Joon-Ho’s Snowpiercer. Diggs will be a character named Layton Well, described as a “a prisoner barely surviving the harsh conditions in the tail end of the train“ barreling through a dystopian tundra. Well will eventually be a part of the resistance, but initially “spends his days sniffing the industrial-waste-turned-drug Chronole and tending to his cage full of rats.“
Turner also revealed that the pilot—which has not yet been picked up to series—is set to be directed by Doctor Strange’s Scott Derrickson. Diggs won a Tony for playing the dual role of the Marquis de Lafayette and Thomas Jefferson in Lin-Manuel Miranda’s musical phenomenon. He also has a recurring role in this season of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.
