Another big-name action director has parted ways with the upcoming Scarface remake, with Variety reporting that Suicide Squad leader David Ayer, who was rumored to be attached to the project earlier this year, has dropped out. Ayer follows in the footsteps of Training Day director Antoine Fuqua, who said goodbye to Tony Montana and his various little friends back in January.
Ayer’s departure can apparently be chalked up to scheduling; he’s currently working on Bright for Netflix, with his old Suicide Squad pal Will Smith in the starring role. But Universal—which has secured Diego Luna for the lead in Scarface—apparently wants the drug smuggling epic off the ground, like, tomorrow. So the search for a director who can really capture the true beauty of the American Dream—Cocaine And Machine Guns Edition—is forced to once again resume.
