David Fincher will make another season of Mindhunter before World War Z 2

David Fincher’s World War Z was a fairly big hit, but Fincher, Paramount, and original star Brad Pitt have had a surprisingly difficult time getting a sequel off the ground. For one thing, the original came out in 2013—which is like 12 Marvel movies ago, if that’s how you keep track of time—and the sequel burned through multiple screenwriters and directors before Fincher decided to just stay on board. Since we last heard, though, Fincher’s Netflix series Mindhunter has been released and met with a very positive reception, so The Playlist is reporting that he has put World War Z 2 (or whatever it will be called) on hold while he makes another season of his streaming crime drama.

Production on the World War Z sequel was originally intended to begin this fall, but the script is apparently “not ready quite yet” and Pitt’s schedule is supposedly a bit messy at the moment because of ongoing issues with his divorce from Angelina Jolie. Mindhunter will now go into production later this month, and Fincher will presumably start working on World War Z again at some point in the future (at least until something better comes along).
