David Koechner is developing another sketch comedy series for NBC

NBC continues to hone in on a new niche by supplying the sort of old-fashioned, variety show spectacle that Americans are increasingly gravitating to, so exhausted are they by stories. It’s renewed Hollywood Game Night, confirmed plans for more annual live musicals, set up a variety series pilot from Maya Rudolph, and now it’s working with Rudolph’s fellow Saturday Night Live alum David Koechner on another one-hour sketch comedy and variety show. Unlike SNL, the Koechner-produced-and-toplined series will be ready for primetime, with Koechner noting that, as a family man himself, he hopes to make something that will “make a mom, dad and grandmother laugh, while the 13- to 19-year-old stands behind the couch peeking over his iPhone, equally amused by the content.” Which seemingly limits Koechner to pratfalls and maybe some monkeys wearing people clothes, but hopefully he’s got some other ideas.
