David Letterman will be a guest on Late Late Show, but Regis Philbin is hosting

Remember when you were a kid, and your parents arranged a play date for you, and you went along with it to make them happy, but you didn’t actually like the other kid that much? That’s what this feels like: The Wrap reports that David Letterman will be visiting The Late Late Show as a guest on January 27, when the guest host will be America’s awkward uncle Regis Philbin.

As previously reported, since Craig Ferguson’s departure in December, Late Late Show has been utilizing a rotating cast of guest hosts to fill the void until new host James Corden takes over in March. Philbin was not mentioned in that initial CBS announcement, presumably for fear of scaring off potential viewers. However, his stint behind the desk will be brief—only two days—and if you squint hard, Philbin looks like an excitable garden gnome, which is helpful.
