Ending many months of being known as “the movie formerly titled American Bullshit," David O. Russell has finally announced a new title for his film about the 1970s ABSCAM sting. It’s now called American Hustle, a name that embodies the go-get-’em spirit that swept the Me Decade’s discos and government operations, leading to widespread freewheeling arm movements and collusions with grifters. Anyway, you now have another, more official way to refer to the film that unites Russell’s Silver Linings Playbook ensemble of Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence, and Robert De Niro, his Fighter players Christian Bale and Amy Adams, and new recruits Jeremy Renner and Louis C.K.—though you could also still refer to it as “that movie with all the crazy wigs.” (Or American Hustleshit.
