David Wenham to play a ruthless corporate douche on Netflix’s Iron Fist
When it was announced that Game Of Thrones actor Finn Jones would be taking on the role of Danny Rand, a.k.a. Iron Fist, in Netflix’s upcoming series based on the Marvel character of the same name, several questions immediately arose. The biggest ones involve messy issues about race and representation, questions we’re going to set aside for now, because it’s Tuesday, and our next social-media-induced headache isn’t scheduled until Thursday. But the next biggest question was, “Hey, shouldn’t there be some less-heroic people surrounding the main guy, so we know he’s a good person?” That’s where David Wenham steps in. According to Coming Soon, the 300 and Lord Of The Rings actor is set to join the cast, proving Netflix is doing its part to keep the Australian actor quotient on its projects above zero.
Wenham is playing the part of Harold Meachum, described as “a ruthless corporate leader,” which is a tough role to fill in the MCU on Netflix, given he’ll be following in the footsteps of superlative badass Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) on Daredevil. Of course, those who read the comics know there’s a lot more to Meachum than that, but in the interest of keeping this spoiler-free, we’ll simply say there’s a connection to Rand that looms large in both their lives. Additionally, one of Netflix’s teaser images for the series, shown below, includes a mention of Meachum’s daughter, Joy, meaning we can expect her to show up on Iron Fist, as well. Wenham joins Jones and Jessica Henwick, who will play Colleen Wing on the upcoming series.
