Fox has finally settled on Matt Reeves to direct Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes, the sequel to its surprise hit Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes and "natural extension" of that film's storyline about a bunch of intelligent apes going crazy and smashing things. Reeves, best known for helming Cloverfield and the remake Let Me In, was reportedly chosen from a short list of people who might take over for exiting director Rupert Wyatt, one that included names like 28 Weeks Later's Juan Carlos Fresnadillo and Take Shelter's Jeff Nichols, as well as the complete fake-out of putting Guillermo del Toro just to give them some sort of leverage in negotiating, probably. Dawn is now on track to meet its May 23, 2014 release date and begin outlining how the Planet Of The Apes, having previously risen, plots its overthrow of humanity in earnest—a plan that apparently means getting together really early. Were we those apes, anyway, we'd expect a pancake breakfast if we had to do something at dawn. But then again, maybe that's why we humans are just waiting to be overthrown.
