Day Two: Our Party, Mostly
THURSDAY, MARCH 15
11:15am: Our day party, co-presented with our friends at Tag Team Media went by like a big, wonderful blur. Rather than dote on which bands and comedians were most awesome, let's just thank them all: The M's for rocking it so early in the day, Matt & Kim for squeezing us into such a crowded schedule, oh… I'll just name the rest: Patrick Watson, Kaki King, Young Galaxy, Land Of Talk, Maritime, Future Of The Left, Amy Millan, Clem Snide, Tokyo Police Club, Andrew Bird, Jon Wurster, Leo Allen, Aziz Ansari, and Michael Showalter. Also: Sponsors (no Yaris, but other fine folks including Simple Shoes and Brown Sound Clothing). And all the people that packed Emo's over the course of six hours. This was the first time we've really had a hand in planning one of these, and it was a rousing success. So thanks!
11:13pm: Here is the beauty of SXSW in a nutshell: I walked into a hip bar called Karma and watched 20 minutes of buzzing British Krautrock lovers Fujiya & Miyagi (pretty good, if affected), then walked two blocks away to a wood-paneled Presbyterian church to catch a folky (but not freaky, and also a bit affected) performance by Nina Nastasia. Her Cat Power-like delivery–without the dangerous vibe–was made even more Cat Power-like by the presence of Chan's onetime drummer (and longtime Dirty Three guy) Jim White.
