DC is thinking about giving Ryan Reynolds another shot at Green Lantern
DC may be willing to forgive and forget when it comes to Ryan Reynolds and Green Lantern. The Wrap has a list of potential Hal Jordans that the studio is considering for Green Lantern Corps, and Reynolds is on it alongside the likes of Armie Hammer, Jake Gyllenhaal, Joel McHale, and Bradley Cooper. Reynolds played the superhero in 2011’s Green Lantern, but made fun of that shitshow in the first installment of his new, far more successful superhero franchise, Deadpool. Perhaps Warner Bros. wants a wisecracker, though: the choice of McHale would imply that it might want to try the Guardians Of The Galaxy route of importing a television comedy star.
Still, the most curious name floated—aside from Reynolds—is Tom Cruise. In his 50s, Cruise is far older than any of the other men with strong jaw lines proposed. However, with The Mummy on the horizon, it does seem like he’s is interested in adding action franchises to his resume.
Green Lantern Corps—which is being written by David Goyer and Justin Rhodes and has been described as “Lethal Weapon in space”—will also feature another Green Lantern, John Stewart. Sterling K. Brown, recently cast in Black Panther, has made his interest known on Twitter.
