DC’s biggest heroes reunite in this Trinity #1 exclusive

DC Comics is pushing its most popular properties with its current DC Rebirth initiative, so of course the publisher’s trinity of heavy hitters would get the spotlight in an ongoing series. After appearing together on the big screen earlier this year, Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman are teaming up again in Francis Manapul’s Trinity, and while the presence of these A-list heroes is sure to make the book a top seller, the most exciting thing about the series is Manapul flying solo as writer, artist, and colorist. Manapul’s creative evolution was one of the most exciting things about DC’s New 52, and after strong runs on The Flash and Detective Comics with co-writer and colorist Brian Buccellato, Manapul is showing off what he can do on his own with Trinity.

These preview pages from this week’s Trinity #1 spotlight the bold graphic design in Manapul’s page composition, and the introductions of Wonder Woman and Batman to the narrative are given extra drama thanks to Manapul’s layouts. These two-page spreads capture the majesty of these larger-than-life characters, and they’re even more effective after the subdued opening page showing the Kent family farm. Manapul’s meticulous linework brings rich detail to the visuals while his evocative coloring creates a dreamy atmosphere for the action, and while these pages are light on plot, they do remarkable work drawing the reader into the world of this series.
