DC’s Flash movie just lost its director

First-time director Seth-Grahame Smith has completed the magical transformation back into no-time director Seth-Grahame Smith, having just announced that he’s departing Warner Bros.’ upcoming The Flash. Smith—who previously wrote Dark Shadows and Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, and is probably best known for sharing “written by” credits with Jane Austen on the novel version of Pride And Prejudice And Zombies—is leaving the project over “creative differences,” the kryptonite of cinematic superhero partnerships.

Smith was tapped to direct the film last year, working from his own script and a treatment by certified hit-makers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. The movie—which is currently set for a March 3, 2018 debut—will star Ezra Miller, who already appeared as the fleet-footed speedster in a brief cameo in Batman V. Superman: Dawn Of Justice, and is currently filming Justice League: Part 1.

Despite the setback, Smith is still involved in numerous projects for Warner. He’s currently scripting a take on the long-threatened Beetlejuice sequel, and will be doing some more more low-key superhero stuff by writing The Lego Batman Movie for director Chris McKay.
