Dear Zachary bill becomes law in Canada
Feel like crying? Then drop your computer and go see the 2008 documentary Dear Zachary: A Letter To A Son About His Father. Actually, wait a second: It's streaming on Netflix, so pick your computer back up.
Anyway, the excellent, absolutely gutting film—which started as a collection of fond remembrances of a murdered father intended for his infant son but turned into something else entirely—helped inspire the passage of a new law in Canada dealing with the subject of bail. I can't tell you much more than that without spoiling the real-life, unbearably heartbreaking turn of events. You can read a letter from David and Kate Bagby, the murdered man's parents, here. But only read it if you've already seen the movie or have no desire to weep for weeks after watching a movie. The trailer is below.
