Death Grips has broken up
Death Grips, the two-piece group that only sometimes showed up for its concerts and leaked its own record, has broken up. The band posted the following note, sketchily written on a napkin, on its Facebook earlier today, saying “[Death Grips] are now at our best and so Death Grips is over.” As the note states, all scheduled dates for the duo have been canceled, though the group’s double LP, The Powers That B, is still due out later this year via Harvest Records. And lest the group’s fans get mad at them for bailing after such a short existence, the hasty note reminds readers that “Death Grips was and always has been a conceptual art exhibition anchored by sound and vision above and beyond a ‘band.’” In the immortal and oft-quoted words of someone who is totally not Dr. Seuss, “Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened.”
