Deliver any message 1980s style
In the 1980s, it seemed like everyone was obsessed with imagining what the future would be like. Judging by the video games, sci-fi movies, and new wave rock albums of that bygone era, people apparently thought that the future would be dominated by cool geometric patterns (lots of glowing grids and triangles) and bright, fluorescent colors (plenty of pinks and purples). Alas, apart from Moonbeam City, those predictions have not come to pass. But in tribute to that fertile epoch of graphic design, PhotoFunia, a free online photo editor, has introduced a handy new logo-generating tool called RetroWave. This allows users to type in any text they wish and have it appear in a totally 1980s retro-futuristic style, straight out of a video arcade or an MTV music video. PhotoFunia describes RetroWave as “heavily inspired by the new wave and soundtrack of classic 1980s films, video games, cartoons and television shows.” And indeed it is.
Users can choose from five different backgrounds and four different fonts. Messages can be one, two, or three lines long. What’s great about RetroWave is that the graphic design style of the 1980s is so relentlessly upbeat that it makes any missive, no matter how discouraging, seem cheerful. Like this, for instance.
The most grim medical news becomes absolutely delightful when it’s delivered in this flamboyant fashion.
RetroWave can sugarcoat the darkest news with ease.
People in the 1980s didn’t have time to be depressed. They were too busy wang chunging tonight while coked out of their minds. Nothing fazed them. Nothing.
Those who wish to explore the magic of RetroWave can do so here. It’s so easy and fun to use that people may find themselves spending far too much time with it, making fun little logos for friends and relatives. It’s important, then, to keep certain fundamental principles in mind at all times.
