Denver, see Time Bandits tonight as part of our Fantastique film series

Howdy. Senior Writer Jason Heller here. Just wanted to let you know that Fantastique, The A.V. Club’s monthly fantasy film series, continues tonight at 7:30 at Alamo Drafthouse Denver with Time Bandits. Released in 1981, the Terry Gilliam-directed film was co-written by Gilliam and his fellow Monty Python alum Michael Palin. It’s a sumptuous, witty, reality-bending time-travel fantasy that stands as one of Gilliam’s most thrilling achievements. And since June is Time Travel Month at the Alamo Drafthouse, it’s the perfect time to revisit it on the big screen in glorious 35mm.

Like Science Friction (Fantastique’s sister series at Alamo that focuses on sci-fi films), Fantastique is curated and hosted by yours truly, along with Frank Romero, cofounder of Denver Comic Con. Frank and I will be there in person tonight to introduce and discuss Time Bandits, and we’ll also pick the winner of this month’s special giveaway: a hardcover copy of Neil Gaiman’s new collection of fantasy short stories, Trigger Warning, courtesy of William Morrow Books.

One more thing: Since June is Time Travel Month at Alamo, we’ll be showing Gilliam’s other time-travel masterpiece, 12 Monkeys, on June 17 as part of our Science Friction series. Twice the Gilliam time travel, twice the brain-frying fun.

Tickets for Time Bandits are on sale now.
