Deplorables walk out of Amy Schumer’s Tampa show over anti-Trump jokes
The select group of people who are both Donald Trump voters and Amy Schumer fans were disappointed in Tampa on Sunday when the comedian went off on the Republican presidential candidate during her show. The Tampa Bay Times reports that approximately 200 people left the venue when she tackled Trump. “I don’t want to hear that,” one attendee told the paper. “We wanted to have a good night without distractions with the politics.”
While it’s surprising that anyone would think they could avoid politics right now, they shouldn’t have been so surprised that Schumer would bring up the latest Trump scandals—the Inside Amy Schumer creator did feature a sketch about rape in the military on her show, after all. Here’s footage of Schumer’s Sunday night show:
Schumer brought a Trump supporter up on stage, and asked him to explain his rationale. His reasoning? He just really doesn’t like Hillary Clinton. “That was just cool to hear what one guy, who doesn’t seem like a psychopath, why he’d want to vote for that orange, sexual assaulting, fake-college-starting monster,” she said after he left. This being a Schumer show, the comedian received a fair amount of cheers along with some boos. (That’s perhaps why Florida is the ultimate swing state.) But Schumer wasn’t just interested in lighting into Trump; she also made a point about the pervasiveness of sexual assault, asking survivors to stand up. A critic for The Tampa Bay Times noted that he “counted four in the first half of my section alone.”
