Writer-director Desiree Akhavan made some noise earlier this year with her film, The Miseducation Of Cameron Post, taking home the Grand Jury Award at Sundance. Now she seeks to continue her hot streak with the Hulu/Channel 4 comedy series The Bisexual. The show follows Leila (Akhavan), a thirtysomething New Yorker who goes on a break from her long-term girlfriend and business partner. After moving out, Leila begins sleeping with men, but struggles to come out as bisexual to her ex-girlfriend and lesbian friends. The show examines the differences between dating men and women, and unpacks the stigmas that come along with identifying as bisexual. Recently, The A.V. Club sat down for an interview with Akhavan, who also serves as the shows co-writer and director, to talk about The Bisexual.
