Despite Disney merger, The Simpsons is staying put on Fox through season 32

Well, that’s a first: No one’s ever been able to fit 32 seasons into one scripted, U.S. primetime series before, but come 2020, The Simpsons will. As part of its day at the Television Critics Association winter press tour, Fox announced that it has renewed the landmark animated comedy for two more seasons, bringing its total number of episodes up to 713.

The news makes good on former Fox bosses Dana Walden and Gary Newman’s promise that the Simpson family will keep its usual spot on the TV dial, even as the ongoing Disney-Fox relocates Evergreen Terrace to the Magic Kingdom. “The Simpsons is so associated with Fox,” Newman said back in August. “I feel confident that Disney and Fox are going to find a way to both have an interest in that show, and I anticipate it continuing to stay on the Fox network.”
