At last month’s TCAs, Showtime’s David Nevins hinted at a looming “endgame” for Dexter, one that could possibly see the show finally wrapping up during its eighth season. Or, given the network’s reluctance to let it go, see Dexter and his pals unwinding with a season-long “endgame” of Monopoly, just to stretch things out. But according to CBS CEO Les Moonves, anyway, this season really is its last: “We have Ray Donovan coming on with Liev Schreiber, which comes on with Dexter's last season starting in June and then we have Masters Of Sex,” Moonves said in a conference call, an offhand yet seemingly authoritative acknowledgment that June 30 will be the beginning of the end for Dexter (in a more literal sense than the beginning of the end that arguably started around season five). Naturally, a spokesperson for Showtime immediately told The Hollywood Reporter that there’s “nothing confirmed” about Dexter’s future, likely because they’re still waiting to see how the whole “Batista’s restaurant” story plays out. But odds are this really is it, and that this season, Dexter will finally meet your mother. (And kill her.)
