Best known for having facilitated long, in-depth discussions with his guests on The Dick Cavett Show, Dick Cavett made a reputation as one of the great talk show interviewers in history. The roster of talent that came across his desk is nothing short of envious—he interviewed civil rights activist Angela Davis, boxing legend Muhammad Ali, directors Alfred Hitchcock and Ingmar Bergman, Angela Lansbury, and artist Salvador Dalí. At SXSW, we spoke with Cavett to find out what he thinks about modern talk shows, which he says don’t focus on the conversations anymore.
