Determined to get as much use as possible out of its vast comic-book collection—even if this only decreases its value—Disney has announced its first Marvel project for the studio’s animated arm, choosing Big Hero 6 as part of its continued introducing of Marvel superheroes to every aspect of its business. Winnie The Pooh director Don Hall will head up the 3-D, CGI adaptation of the obscure series created in 1998, a story steeped in Japanese pop culture that revolves around a young engineering prodigy named Hiro Hamada and his constant robot pal. They’ll join forces with a team of crimefighters that includes samurais, monsters, and people with whimsically delicious names like Honey Lemon and Wasabi-No-Ginger, then set out to protect their city of San Fransokyo—a mash-up of San Francisco and Tokyo that can be glimpsed in the first look clip below. Then they’ll generally do the sort of fun, kid-friendly cartoon superhero stuff that should generate plenty of family movie money when Big Hero 6 debuts on November 7, 2014. And after that, Disney can move on to seeing whether maybe there’s some way to add The Punisher to the Country Bear Jamboree.
