Disney classics re-imagined as ’90s hip-hop jams

You might remember Todrick Hall from whimsical Disney mashups such as Cinderoncé and the darker, more villainous “Spell Block Tango.” However, the former American Idol finalist has added a more lighthearted, funky feather in his cap with his latest video, “90s Disney,” which grafts tunes from The Lion King, Beauty & The Beast and Aladdin to songs by Ginuwine, Mariah Carey, and Montell Jordan. With vocal assistance from sidekick Shoshana Bean, Hall transforms brassy interludes into slow jams (The Little Mermaid’s “Poor Unfortunate Souls” crossed with Ginuwine’s “Pony”) and sappy ballads into Jock Jams (Aladdin’s “A Whole New World” transformed by the party-startin’ chants of Montell Jordan’s “This Is How We Do It”). Fingers crossed for a sequel that finds a way to somehow work in TLC’s “Creep.”
