Disney finally just making another Alice In Wonderland movie, since that's what everyone's trying to do anyway

After two years of sending the film industry down the hyper-stylized rabbit hole chasing some of its same “dark fairy tale reimagining” magic, Disney has realized that it’s in the enviable position of just making the next Alice In Wonderland, rather than just “the next Alice In Wonderland.” So Variety reports that the studio has handed the inevitable sequel to Linda Woolverton, writer of the first film, Disney’s upcoming Sleeping Beauty redux Maleficent, and lists of which public domain characters are still unclaimed, surrounded by little dollar signs and doodles of hearts with thorns around them. Neither director Tim Burton nor Johnny Depp are officially attached to return yet, though this is likely just a matter of time, which is that thing that passes in between dark fairy tale reimaginings.
