Disney finds the “where”s and “why”s and “who”s of a Chip ’N’ Dale Rescue Rangers movie

As the old rhyme goes, “sometimes, some crimes go slippin’ through the cracks.” But in a world where a lack of ’80s cartoons updates qualifies as a crime, several gumshoes are picking up the proverbial slack. (Even if “cracks” and “slack” don’t make for a precise rhyme.) According to The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision blog, Mandevile Films (the production company behind The Muppets and The Muppets Most Wanted) has determined that this case is neither too big nor too small and proceeded to call Chip ’N’ Dale’s Rescue Rangers the next Disney property due for a big-screen relaunch. The live-action/CGI hybrid was pitched by suddenly busy writer-director Robert Rugan, who is now tasked with melding our world with the tinker-toy realm occupied by ch-ch-ch-Chip and Dale—when he’s not working on Paramount’s Genies, directing his original script Beauregard Thibodeau, or adapting YA series The Genius Files, that is.

Of course, per the theme song for Rescue Rangers, when there’s danger (of Rugan committing to too many projects), he can call upon the rodent sleuths and their insect assistant who always seemed to be the true case cracker. But noooooooo, “z-z-z-Zipper’s Rescue Rangers” isn’t the kind of hook that’ll be stuck in your head for the rest of the workday. Probably time to listen to the real thing again:
