Disney greenlights that Teen Beach Movie sequel you’ve been breathlessly anticipating

Beach movies have been around since the dawn of the bikini, but the genre had largely gone dormant when Disney Channel released Teen Beach Movie last July. But that’s about to change, because as the slick musical offerings featuring cute-but-not-threatening male leads Disney lays before an undiscriminating audience of preteens often do, Teen Beach Movie scored huge ratings and made a ton of cash—13.53 million people tuned in to watch it on cable, and the soundtrack album reached number three on the Billboard 200 chart.

Now Disney is officially moving forward with a sequel, once again fulfilling the terms of their blood pact with the Sumerian underworld god Tammuz. Stars Ross Lynch and Maia Mitchell will reprise their roles as Brady and McKenzie, two well-scrubbed teens from the present who were transported back to the magical land of 1962 in the first film. Supporting cast members Grace Phipps, Garrett Clayton, and John DeLuca are also on board for the sequel. Production on Teen Beach Movie 2 begins in July; betting on which of these wholesome youngsters’ outrageous antics will shock and offend America in 2018 begins now.
