Clear a place on your shelves: Disney is once again devoting an entire day to the idea that fans will spend tons of money on new Star Wars toys. In anticipation of the December release of Episode VIII: The Last Jedi, the company revealed this morning it has scheduled another Force Friday event where it will introduce a host of new merchandise. This year’s edition will take place on September 1 starting at 12:01 a.m. As for what’s specifically coming, Chairman of Disney Consumer Products and Interactive Media Jimmy Pitaro said in a statement: “Plans for this year’s world-wide event are top secret but expect something befitting the excitement around the next episode of the Star Wars saga.”
The announcement came accompanied by a picture of an empty box, which is notably adorned with images of three of the movie’s heroes: Poe (Oscar Isaac), Rey (Daisy Ridley), and Finn (John Boyega). This constitutes the first time we’ve seen them in the context of The Last Jedi. Rey’s hair is now down. Read into that what you will. (Seriously, go wild.)
