Disney princesses reimagined as cats reimagined as sharks that are not Disney princesses

If there’s one thing that the internet loves more than Disney princesses, it’s cats! And if there’s one thing that the internet loves more than cats, it’s sharks! Particularly sharks that don’t have anything to do with Disney princesses. That’s why the internet’s gonna go on a feeding frenzy for this series of illustrations.

Ariel should be trying to get her voice back, but at the moment she’s kind of preoccupied with this ball of yarn, not to mention the many sea mammals, like seals and small whales, that she feeds on almost exclusively.

For Jasmine, this beam of sunlight on the living room couch is like “a whole new world,” and, by the way, her jaw is on a hinge allowing her to open it extra wide when feeding on deep-water fish and crustaceans.

Elsa is well aware that you have to stay well-groomed when you’re the ruling Princess Of Arendelle. She’s also aware of the heartbeats of prey several miles away due to the extremely sensitive electroreceptor inside her head.

That’s just a few of the Disney princesses who are cats who are sharks who are not Disney princesses. Their creator—Oakland-based illustrator and designer Brynn Metheney—put a bunch more up on Imgur for you to see. Explaining the odd project on her website, she says:

It was a normal day when I grabbed my sketchpad and began to doodle. What came out were scribbles of a horrible little creature: the Shark Cat. The initial design was based on the thresher shark. I found that the short face and extremely large eyes worked well with the cat aesthetic. However, as I kept sketching, I noticed that almost any shark species could be adapted.

Metheney originally conceived of this series as a desktop calendar, but she says she’s not interested in reprinting that. Instead, she’s selling the images in one print. It’s the perfect gift for little girls who are obsessed with Disney princesses and love cats but really kind of prefer sharks and, come to think of it, don’t actually give a shit about Disney princesses.
