Disney reveals its shortlist for a young Han Solo
To paraphrase a popular saying, there are only three things that are inevitable in this life: Death, taxes, and Disney making Star Wars movies until the Earth is nothing but a ball of ice orbiting around a dead sun, and possibly after that. This year’s exercise in massive hype followed by nerdy backlash, Rogue One, has already begun production, and according to a new report in Variety the company is also working on casting another Star Wars spin-off movie, Phil Lord and Chris Miller’s “Young Han Solo” prequel.
From a ridiculously wide pool of more than 2,500 hopefuls, Disney has reportedly assembled a shortlist of “about a dozen” actors. Here are the ones we know by name, ranked according to The A.V. Club’s extremely subjective criteria of perceived resemblance to Harrison Ford and overall roguishness:
Emory Cohen
He can wear the hell out of a mechanic’s jacket.
Miles Teller
We can kind of see it.
Ansel Elgort
This guy again? Okay, fine. That’s a pretty good smirk.
Scott Eastwood
He’s Clint Eastwood’s son, so he should be able to nail the “charming scoundrel” part.
Logan Lerman
Not bad, but not especially Harrison Ford-ish, either.
Blake Jenner
Maybe if Solo was the captain of his high-school football team…
Jack Reynor
More of a young Chris Pratt, really.
Dave Franco
No comment.
Variety speculates that the reason for this rather premature decision—the untitled Han Solo prequel doesn’t come out until May 25, 2018—is so that the character can make a cameo in Rogue One, much like Tom Holland’s appearance as Spider-Man in Captain America: Civil War. Maybe he’ll take Diego Luna and the gang out for a Bantha platter in a post-credits sequence?
