If Disney has learned anything from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it’s that if something is worth doing once, it’s worth doing again. And hopefully a third time. According to Deadline, the company is now putting that lesson into practice by ordering a second season of Disney XD’s Guardians Of The Galaxy cartoon—which is based on the movie, but not officially part of the MCU. Apparently, season two will “dive deeper into the Guardians’ universe,” and it will feature team-ups with The Avengers, an appearance from the High Evolutionary, and—of course—”an ancient weapon with mysterious powers.” After all, it couldn’t be inspired by the movie if it didn’t feature an ancient weapon with mysterious powers.
The show has been doing pretty well for Disney XD, reportedly pulling in 4.4 million “unique total viewers,” at least 1.9 million of which are actually kids. Deadline expects this new season to premiere in 2017, which also happens to be the year that Guardians Of The Galaxy Volume 2 will be released in theaters. Funny how that works out.
