AMC pays tribute to Dolly Parton by putting two of her movies back into theaters

Specifically, AMC CEO Adam Aron announced on social media on Thursday that both movies will be rolling out to 200 AMC locations starting tomorrow, Friday, August 27, where they’ll stay until the following Wednesday. For those wondering which Dolly film to take the kids to, and who have some kind of persistent mental block that keeps them from understanding the words that pop up in movie titles, we’ll note that Steel Magnolias is rated PG, while Whorehouse—despite being significantly tamer/more musical than its name might lead you (or Rusty Venture) to imagine—does carry an R. (Although it’s probably actually a lot less emotionally devastating than Magnolias, especially for those hit hard by Parton’s death this week.) And while you might be forgiven for asking where the heck 9 To 5—Parton’s first major film role, and a persistent favorite—is in this little line-up, on the other hand, you’re also not being expected to show your love of Dolly by making it through a screening of Rhinestone, yeah?

AMC’s move is just one of a pretty huge number of tributes that have been made to Parton this week, as people from all walks of life mourn the death of one of the last people that pretty much every American could agree was fantastic; there are not a lot of people in our current reality who would garner simultaneous tributes from Beyoncé, Andrew Lloyd Weber, and the Trump White House—but Parton was, clearly, that woman.
